Peter offers workshops on music improvisation. The
main thrust of the workshops is to show musicians how to pay attention
to their own voice and develop their own vocabulary rather than
concentrating on the ideas of other composers.
Although workshops can emphasize different aspects
of improvisation and styles of music, Peters specialty is
helping instrumentalists who have little experience improvising
music, especially classically trained musicians, to open the door
to music improvisation and reach their own voice by finding a different
way to approach their instrument.
The methods are not genre specific, ie the workshops
do not intend to teach "jazz" per se but are focused on
showing players how to play their instrument from within rather
than the repertoire of other composers. As a result students can
use these methods to improvise any style of music as well as for
ways to generate musical ideas and write songs, etc.
Peter is an experienced teacher having taught at
the unversity and high school level as well as mentoring hundreds
of students, adults and kids, individually.
